Got my bike back

Against all common sense and better judgment, and out of extreme laziness and procrastination, I ended up bringing my regular bike to Burning Man instead of buying another beater. I barely used it while I was there, but of course it still got pretty beat up.

For about three months after I got back, my bike was sitting upside down in my living room, and I was too lazy to do anything about it. A couple weeks ago I hosed it down, changed the tube in the rear tire, and tried to ride it into work, but I got another flat on the way in, which made me think that there must be something wrong with either the tire or the wheel that I had missed.

Thankfully the bike store down the street was willing to fix it up for me (I was worried they wouldn’t touch a bike that had been sullied in Black Rock city). They cleaned off the gears, replaced the chain, changed the tube again and (I think) patched some hole in the tire. I got it back yesterday, and successfully rode it in work today. Hence the self-congratulatory post, for briefly staving off the ever pressing onslaught of laziness.

Exposé for Vista

This is pretty sweet.

vayama.com

This site is the shit. I booked a last minute ticket to India for Preetesh’s wedding, and I managed to find a Swiss Air flight that wasn’t on Orbitz, and was a good $300 cheaper than anything else I could find.

New Toys

Eventful day.

I picked up a complete Serato Scratch Live setup off Craigslist. A pair of Technics 1200 MK2s in great condition, Vestax mixer, Serato USB module, and a nice coffin case to hold it all. Plus the seller (nice girl who lives a few blocks away) threw in about a hundred records and some other gear (headphones, cleaning supplies, tutorial books). After thirteen years, I finally pulled the trigger. Here’s hoping I actually put some time into this rather than just letting them collect dust.

Meanwhile, I also got my new VMware-issued Thinkpad X200 today. It rocks. This is my sixth laptop in as many years, but so far only my old 12″ G4 Mac even comes close. The form factor is perfect, and it’s light, fast, and sturdy.
