Awesome. Check it. I wonder if the people who come up with crap like this have a natural aptitude for bizarre ideas, that is to say if there’s some axis of skill here, and if it correlates with general creativity or is it just another completely unique and largely useless trait (akin to my acclaimed lyric memorization ability).
Update:
Since she called me on it, I’m obliged to point out that Lisa trounced me in our bout.
I know I’m taking this old-school thing a little overboard, but anyway I watched the two-part premier last weekend. I feel like the show holds up admirably given the test of time; it doesn’t stack up well against something like The Shield but it’s still miles ahead of the countless two-bit action/adventure drama series that soak up off-hours on The WB or FX. Plus near the end of the second episode there’s a really dope sequence with Phil Collins’ In the Air Tonight. They play the entire track but have a cool driving scene and a dramatic phone call laid over the top. In fact, it’s good enough to rip out and add to my music library, which is the plan.
Those of you who know me well, know that my music taste is mired in the ’90s and shows no sign of budging. Those of you who know me really well may have realized that the same applies to my sense of humour, fashion, and automotive aesthetic; all mere symptoms of what is clearly a grave underlying personality problem.
But I digress. Ergo, the Vector W-8. Discovering a throwback like the Vector W-8 provides nearly the same joy as stumbling upon an unreleased remix with Big L. Whether frittered away in endless single-song repeat or squandered trudging through Google Image search results and poorly designed websites for potential wallpaper candidates, the rest of the day is pretty much a write-off.
Contrary to what one might expect, the knowledge that I’ve missed out for so long (on average, eleven years and counting) somehow serves only to amplify, rather than diminish, the experience. Indeed, this awareness fuels an urgent desire to make up for lost time, and indulges my predilection for the bittersweet (the latter of course an all-too familiar vice for some).
I’m in the middle of Three Blind Mice by Ken Auletta, which is a surprisingly good read considering the desperate circumstances under which it was acquired, i.e. extreme and excruciating boredom in Luang Phrabang.
Apparently in the mid eighties, CBS and possibly other networks used to have independent Pope Assassination watch teams; TV crews whose sole job was to shadow the pope and provide instant coverage should he fall victim to an assassination.
The inefficiency of that heady era is most striking; these days I’m sure a smart entrepreneur would have consolidated with the actual security detail, and licensed exclusive footage and advertising rights from the Vatican. Can you say EyeVision?
A picture says a thousand words. I’m also too lazy and tired to come up with anything to say about this other than “WTF”.
